“My name is Mikail Yusuf. I am a 23 year old student at the University of Maiduguri studying computer engineering. I found life in the North very challenging and I often express how difficult it is to access tech hubs and programs in addition to issues of internet connectivity and access to tech hubs and programs. However, I have always been determined to ensure no matter the challenges I face, I will improve myself with skills and succeed.
This determination helped me find Ingressive for Good on Twitter. I enrolled to participate in the I4G Student Builds study program to improve my technical skills as an Android developer. The program exposed me to students like him who shared the same passion and I enjoyed being around them. Before the program, I had no study partner who could share resources and tackle problems with me, so this was a big relief, and it helped me improve drastically.
For my capstone project, I built a News application that helps users get the current and latest news and events happening in Nigeria. I was so proud of myself and my work ethic.
The I4G StudentBuilds study program has helped me overcome my major challenge of learning alone. It provided a platform where I could share my challenges and help other fellows who faced a challenge I have solved in the past. I have greatly been empowered especially when it comes to my social skills, I now know how to express myself when faced with a problem and explain what I have learnt to others. I am really confident that I can advocate for myself and my fellow learners. The past months have been all about learning new things and practicing what I have learned. Thanks to I4G and StudentBuilds for this opportunity. I4G is that place where you greatly enhance your technical skills and also interact with other people in your chosen field of interest. Join the community. It changed my life.”
