CrystalBell, becomes a developer and multiplies her income by 10x

CrystalBell Omuboye, the first child of 6 children with both parents unemployed, took the technical training program to escape the grossly inadequate system she was battling with – no light at home, no data, no money. Early in her life, CrystaBell had learned to make and sell liquid soap to provide for herself, but the money she made was barely sufficient to make ends meet. She earned 20,000 naira ($40) per month to support her family. However, she wanted more for herself, so she applied for this scholarship. At some point in the program, her laptop battery failed her, so she visited cyber cafes and shops to power the laptop to submit the tasks. Eventually, the computer crashed, and she needed a laptop to help her practice what she was learning in our technical training program, but she couldn’t afford it.

So, we stepped in and provided her with a MacBook and tools to help her learn even faster as she transitioned to full-stack. She recently landed a developer job and now earns 10x what she earned before. Her life has completely changed.

Supporting African youth like CrystalBell

CrystalBell is a beneficiary of the I4GZuri scholarship (previously I4GHNG Scholarship) where we offer African youth free access to the I4GxZuri and HNG Internship program. The youths are trained people in design, frontend, backend, and mobile development. The design training covers User Interface / User Experience (UI/UX) and Graphic design. While the frontend development training covers HTML/CSS, JavaScript (JS) and ReactJS. The backend training covers PHP, JavaScript, and Python. At the same time, the mobile development training covers Flutter, Java, and Kotlin.

One of the biggest challenges tech enthusiasts have faced is access – access to training, resources, and tools, but we are trumping these challenges and giving the finalists an enabling environment for learning and increasing their earning power.

We want to raise more African youth like CrystalBell and help them increase their earning power. Support us.
