Ingressive for Good partnered with Geneza School of Design to help 1000 women build skills and careers in design. During the training, we realized the need and benefits of study buddies to better help the women learn and complete their courses. So we created study groups. At the end of the program, we recorded over 70% completions. Onyah Nwakaego tells us about her experience leading a study group, the impact she made and the impact it had on her.
“I am Onyah Nwakaego, a newly introduced tech enthusiast with knowledge in User Interface Design, all thanks to Geneza School of design and Ingressive for good. I stumbled on the scholarship program at a time when I needed a change in my career after being in the banking system for a while. I felt I could do better in the design space so I optioned for User Interface Design (UI). The joy I felt when I received a call and also acceptance mail from ingressive for Good can not be explained in words. I was excited because considering the number of applicants, I felt blessed.
Leading Group 5 at first was a challenge as some members were not willing to get involved in the team’s process but with consistent follow-up and genuine concern to help resolve their problems, 95% of them got engaged in the team’s activity. This was a major milestone as a good number of team members completed their courses.
During this scholarship program I was able to identify that learning and sharing goes hand in hand. Learning from this program gave me insight on something I had no knowledge about (User Interface Design) while leading a group accorded me the opportunity to help others to solve problems relating to design and also learn from other members .
Learning design has really changed my perception about design in a positive way. I presently know that design is an art that is meant to convey a message effectively to its identified audience or users.
Designing has been an intriguing experience for me. From designing wireframe to mobile app and then website. One of the designs that I enjoined working on among others is the Starbucks App. Thank you so much Geneza School of Design and Ingressive for Good, I look forward to making magic with what I have learnt.”
