4 ways to make a great impression on a hiring manager

Creating a great impression on a hiring manager doesn’t start and end at the interview. In fact, it begins the moment you click “send” to apply for a job or shoot your shot at a potential employer. This is why you must be intentional about every aspect of the hiring process if you’d like to stand out from the tons of other applicants.

In this blog post, we would be sharing 4 ways you can make a great impression on a hiring manager.

1. Know their target

Every company has a target market/audience. There is someone they are trying to reach with their content, product, services as the case may be. When you’re creating your CV, portfolio, writing your cover letter or speaking during the interview, tailor it to let them know how your skills would help them serve their target market/audience better and achieve the company’s goals. Its very important that you let them know how the value you have to offer helps them achieve their business goals.

2. Be Enthusiastic

No one wants to hire someone who isn’t excited about the role they are being offered. You need to show that you are passionate about the work they do and the impact you would be able to make in the company if you are offered the role.

Let your eagerness to work with the company show in your cover letter and during the interview. You don’t have to laugh unnecessarily or crack annoying jokes. Be professional.

3. Respect their time

It definitely doesn’t look good being late for the interview of a job you applied for. Be early for interviews and if there’s a task that needs to be done as a part of the hiring process, make sure you submit it before the deadline.

During the interview process, don’t talk for so long that you exceed the amount of time you’re supposed to spend at the interview. Make sure your responses/questions are clear and straightforward so you can finish before the stipulated time.

4. Create your experience

Even if you’re a newbie without a prior experience in the new role, you can still create experiences for yourself. For instance, if you’re a designer you can create designs for an app, website, a flyer for an event. Its okay if these are not projects affiliated with any “real company”, doing these would only show that you are creative and innovative. You don’t wait for opportunities to come, you create them and these are things that any hiring manager would find impressive.
